• Young male bison in Teton National Park forages in Sage Brush. Yellowstone National Park is probably the oldest and largest public bison herd in the United States, estimated in 2020 to be 4,800 bison. The bison in the Yellowstone Park bison herd are American bison of the Plains bison subspecies. Yellowstone National Park may be the only location in the United States where free-ranging bison were never extirpated, since they continued to exist in the wild and were not reintroduced. American Bison are often the most dependable photographic subject in Grand Teton National Park—roaming the open sage flats and grasslands in the Jackson Hole valley. Unlike Elk, Deer, and Moose that usually duck back into the forests just after sunrise, Bison and Pronghorns remain visible throughout the day. Licensing and Open Edition

 • Puffin with a beak full of fish on Cape Ingolfshofdi, Iceland. The Atlantic puffin has become an emblematic animal of Iceland, and many visitors want to see this cute black-and-white little bird with its bright orange beak and webbed feet. Luckily, Iceland is one of the best places to see puffins as it is home to the largest colony of puffins in the world, and over half of the world’s population nest here each year.

Although numbers have been sadly declining in recent years, it is estimated that over 5 million Atlantic puffins nest in Iceland each year during the spring and summer months. However, even though there are millions of these little birds in Iceland, they are not always the easiest to find.
Puffin Iceland 5972.jpg
 • This large basalt rock was carved by ancient peoples to map the area of the upper Snake River, possibly as long as 12,000 years ago.

The map is believed to have been carved by the Shoshone-Bannock natives long before European contact. It depicts the Snake and Salmon Rivers, as well as the animals and tribes that inhabited the territories in between. No one can decisively say what the carving’s purpose was, which only contributes to its mysterious, ancient allure. Licensing and Open Edition Prints
